Hand-Made Prints

This wing of our gallery features Elizabeth's work from her days as a printmaker. The serigraphs were all pulled by hand by a reductive block-out method, giving each a painterly appearance. The imagery consists mainly of landscapes and nudes reflecting a Pagan desire to frolic in nature, to find joy in being a woman.

The hand-made linoleum block-cut prints were made without the aid of a press, using the old Japanese technique of rubbing the back of the paper with a spoon. These works are very Pagan in nature and demonstrate the stirrings of eroticism. "Dreams of Pan" is about lovers crossing the watery threshold into spiritual dimensions. "Earth Mother", Elizabeth's favorite, celebrates the feminine power of birth within a dreamy oceanic context.

Elizabeth's early nudes have been compared with Philip Pearlstein's work and her block prints have been said to be reminiscent of Aubrey Beardsley.
